Doha: The Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) in its Technical Committee report laid importance on the gymnasts’ participation at the international competitions next year before it hosts the 48th FIG Artistic World Championships.
Qatar will field gymnasts at the Junior Asian Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, which will be held from April 25-28.
“Our main target would be to see one our gymnasts qualify for the Youth Olympic Games finals in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Hence, we want our athletes to do well at the Junior Asian Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, in April as it’s a qualifying tournament for Youth Olympic Games,” said QGF Technical Manager Anis Saoud. “We’re expecting also some good results at the Asian Games.”
The FIG Artistic World Championships, which will be held from October 25 to November 3, will be showpiece tournament that QGF will host next year.
“It’s going to be a tough challenge for the Qataris, but participating in a top competition like the Worlds will give them a lot of experience,” added Anis.
But before the Worlds, local gymnasts like Ahmed Al Dayani, who had qualified for pommel horse finals in 2016 World Cup here, will get an opportunity to prepare himself for the global event.
Besides, the aspiring Qatari judges are likely to be send at different FIG courses as QGF wants to have more international judges at its disposal.
The committee also presented a report on the team and gymnasts’ performances in international competitions in 2017.
